{"id":680,"date":"2023-09-08T17:00:30","date_gmt":"2023-09-08T16:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cleeritesg.com\/?p=680"},"modified":"2024-01-13T17:33:52","modified_gmt":"2024-01-13T16:33:52","slug":"set-the-stage-for-real-transformation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cleeritesg.com\/index.php\/2023\/09\/08\/set-the-stage-for-real-transformation\/","title":{"rendered":"Set the stage for real transformation"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 id=\"ember2179\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">CSRD is about future-proofing your business.<\/h4>\n<p class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">ESRS is where sustainability meets strategy and sets the stage for real transformation and profitable business.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember2180\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">The European Sustainability Reporting Standards, ESRS, mandatory for companies subject to CSRD, specify the information that the company shall disclose to allow for readers to understand its material impacts on people and environment, and the material effects of sustainability matters on the company\u2019s development, performance and position.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember2181\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">Future-proofing is the process of anticipating the future and developing methods of minimizing the effects of shocks and stresses of future events &#8211; on the company\u2019s development, performance and position.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember2182\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">The ESRS strategy disclosure requirements, SBM, focus on how the company\u2019s strategy and business model interact with, and addresses, its material sustainability impacts, risks and opportunities.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The term \u201cimpacts\u201d refers to positive and negative, actual or potential, sustainability-related impacts that are connected with the company\u2019s business, as identified through an impact materiality assessment.<\/li>\n<li>The term \u201crisks and opportunities\u201d refers to the company\u2019s sustainability-related financial risks and opportunities, including those deriving from dependencies on natural, human and social resources, as identified through a financial materiality assessment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"ember2184\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">But, it\u2019s not only about mitigating adverse impact and risks, it\u2019s also about pursuing new opportunities, as laid out in EU\u2019s new growth strategy the Green Deal.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"ember2185\" class=\"ember-view\">What does ESRS say about opportunities?<\/h4>\n<p id=\"ember2186\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">To start with, when reporting on material opportunities, the reader should be able to understand if the opportunity is currently being pursued and is already incorporated in the company\u2019s own general strategy, or if it is just general opportunity for the company or the sector it operates in. (ESRS-1.109)<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember2187\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">ESRS also lists 5 opportunity levers the company can consider: Resource efficiency, Markets, Financing, Reputation and Resilience.<\/p>\n<h5 id=\"ember2189\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\"><strong>Resource efficiency, e.g.,<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Transition to more efficient services and less resource-intense processes.<\/li>\n<li>Decrease quantities of substances used or improve efficiency of production process to minimise impacts.<\/li>\n<li>Eco-design for longevity, repair, reuse, recycle, by- products, take-back systems, decoupling activity from extraction of materials, intensifying circular material use, creation of a system that allows for dematerialization (e.g., digitisation, improving utilisation rates, weight reduction).<\/li>\n<li>Practices to ensure products and materials are collected, sorted, and reused, repaired, refurbished, remanufactured.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5 id=\"ember2191\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\"><strong>Markets, e.g.,<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Development of less resource-intense products and services.<\/li>\n<li>Diversification of business activities.<\/li>\n<li>Demand for less resource-intense products and services, and new consumption models such as product-as- a-service, pay-per-use, sharing, leasing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5 id=\"ember2193\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\"><strong>Financing, e.g.,<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Access to green funds, bonds or loans<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5 id=\"ember2195\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\"><strong>Reputation, e.g.,<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Positive stakeholder relations and engagement as a result of a proactive stance on managing risks.<\/li>\n<li>Preferred partner status.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5 id=\"ember2197\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\"><strong>Resilience, e.g.,<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Diversification of resources and business activities (e.g., start a new business unit to recycle new materials)<\/li>\n<li>Investing in green infrastructures<\/li>\n<li>Adopting recycling and circularity mechanisms that reduce dependencies.<\/li>\n<li>Increase the capability to safeguard future stocks and flows of resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"ember2199\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">\n<p id=\"ember2200\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\"><strong>ESRS is as much about strategy as it is about reporting, so you will need CSRD-ready sustainability strategy &amp; reporting digital support to succeed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"ember2201\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">What better way to start than to see ESRS on your screen, fully digitized?
